Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Neurodiversity).

At FAST Uganda, we recognize the unique strengths and needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and embrace neurodiversity as a vital part of our community. One of the most effective ways to support social and communication development in children with ASD is through outdoor activities that encourage joint attention. Joint attention—the shared focus of two individuals on an object or activity—is a foundational skill for building relationships and language.

Our team at FAST Uganda incorporates a variety of outdoor activities, such as nature walks, group games, and interactive play, to create natural opportunities for children to practice joint attention. These activities are not only enjoyable but also provide a relaxed environment where children can learn to follow another’s gaze, point out interesting objects, and share experiences with peers and caregivers. By engaging in these shared moments, children develop important social cues, improve their ability to communicate, and strengthen their connections with others.

Through our holistic and inclusive approach, FAST Uganda empowers children with ASD to thrive in their own unique ways. Outdoor activities are just one of the many strategies we use to foster growth, confidence, and a sense of belonging. By supporting joint attention and social interaction in natural settings, we help children with neurodiversity build the skills they need for lifelong learning and meaningful relationships.
